AI won’t nick your job, but it might wreck your reputation

Everyone’s got an opinion on AI.

For years it’s been such a polarising subject and it’ll continue to be so.

I’ve seen dozens of posts about using AI, the ethics, the sustainability and the fear of it stealing people’s jobs. Some people are really worried that it’s coming for their livelihood. Others are throwing everything into ChatGPT and using whatever comes back out… client work, LinkedIn posts, cold DMs, the lot. Neither of those is a brilliant place to be sat.

A couple of months ago I posted on LinkedIn to say it’s ok to use AI, and let’s all stop shaming people who do… within 12 hours I had to turn off the comments because it was attracting a lot of hate. And I get it, for some industries it is a threat, it is causing people to worry about their jobs.

But here’s the thing, for the kind of work we do, AI probably isn’t going to steal your job. In fact, it can enhance what you’re creating so you’re quicker, and it’s a great tool to bounce ideas around. But when it’s used badly, it can quietly chip away at the thing that actually wins you clients… your reputation.

Flat, samey course content people can smell a mile off. LinkedIn posts that sound like everyone else’s posts, there’s even an AI Slop button now. Automated DMs that get you a “which tool did you use for this then?” instead of a reply. And people forgetting to remove the extra text at the bottom of the paragraph.

I’ve been using AI daily for a couple of years now and it’s pretty integrated in the way I work.

So in this session I want to empower you to really see it as another brain, another version of you, and use it accordingly.

And yep, I used AI to help draft this blurb… it came up with the outline, I tweaked, then it polished and I tweaked again. It’s my idea, just enhanced.

What you’ll get out of it

  • A clear-eyed view of where AI and automations actually help across your work, your marketing and your admin
  • Practical ways to use it for design, content and social without losing your own voice in the process
  • The confidentiality, IP and quality traps to watch for before they cost you a client
  • More confidence talking to clients about how (and whether) you use it

Who it’s for

Freelance and self-employed people development professionals… designers, facilitators, trainers, coaches and consultants. The ones already leaning on AI for bits and bobs and quietly wondering if they’re doing it right. And the ones swerving it completely, wondering if they’re being daft or dodging a bullet.
