Build a 90-day plan to find more work
I’ve always said there are mountains and valleys to freelance life. Others would say it’s like riding the feast-or-famine rollercoaster.
One month you’re flat out delivering client work. The next, you suddenly realise there’s not much coming down the line and you’re scrambling to find your next project. And then sometimes your butt starts twitching and you start seriously looking at employed jobs.
The problem usually isn’t knowing that you should be doing business development. It’s knowing what to focus on, who to speak to and how much activity you actually need to keep your pipeline healthy.
And based on our 2026 Insights Survey, and actually the two surveys before that, finding work continues to be one of the biggest challenges freelancers tell us about. You’ve asked for more platforms and places to find opportunities, but sometimes you can’t just wait for the work to appear. You have to create some of those opportunities yourself.
In this practical 90-minute workshop, you’ll turn “I need more work” into a clear, realistic 90-day plan.
No, you won’t be sending hundreds of cold messages or forcing yourself to post on LinkedIn every day. It’s more about working out where your work actually comes from, spotting the gaps early, and building a routine that works for you.
And yep, there’s going to be a workbook for the session too, so you’ll leave with a plan you can start using straight away.
What you’ll get out of it
By the end of the 90 minutes, you’ll have:
- A clear view of your current pipeline so you know what’s coming up, where the gaps are and when you need to start taking action.
- A prioritised list of opportunities and people to focus on including past clients, warm contacts and conversations you need to pick back up.
- A realistic business development routine built around the activities that are most likely to lead to work, rather than trying to do everything everywhere.
- Your own 90-day pipeline plan with clear actions and warning signs for when things are getting a bit sparse.
Who should attend?
This workshop is for freelancers who are a bit fed up of not knowing where the next piece of work is coming from.
About the speaker
Kim Ellis is the founder of Go Ginger Learning Solutions and L&D Free Spirits.
She’s worked in learning and development for nearly 20 years and has been running her own business since 2017, so she knows first-hand what it’s like to balance doing the actual client work with finding the next bit of client work.
Through Go Ginger, Kim works with organisations to diagnose performance problems and create practical learning solutions. Through L&D Free Spirits, she works with freelancers, self-employed L&D professionals and small learning businesses who are dealing with many of the same challenges she’s faced herself over the years.
This session is exclusive for Free Spirit members only.
